Publications Autoportraits

In late 1921 or early 1922, six months after arriving in Paris, Man Ray created his first "rayographs" by placing and then exposing various everyday objects on a sheet of photosensitive paper. The next day, Tzara noticed the prints pinned to the wall and exclaimed, "This is pure Dada!" In December 1922, Man Ray published 12 of these prints in the album Les Champs délicieux, accompanied by a preface by Tzara praising the regenerative virtues of photography in comparison to traditional painting.
